A community moving together for change

Each year in Nairobi, Kenya, runners gather for a unique event set in one of the city’s most treasured natural spaces: Karura Forest. Located just a few kilometres from Nairobi’s centre, Karura is an urban forest reserve known for its peaceful walking trails, towering indigenous trees, and rich biodiversity. It is here, along these winding paths, that the Karura Fun Run takes place — an annual community event that brings people together to support the work of Tushinde Children’s Trust.

The Karura Fun Run was created to unite people around one purpose: to strengthen the support Tushinde provides to children and families living in Nairobi's informal settlements. This year’s event continued that tradition with remarkable spirit. The forest echoed not only with footsteps but with a sense of collective purpose — a reminder of why this community gathering has become so meaningful.

Thanks to the generosity of everyone who ran, donated, sponsored, or volunteered, the 2025 event raised KES 356, 011 that will directly bolster Tushinde’s programmes. These contributions help sustain the core of our work: ensuring children are safe, nourished, educated and supported within loving and stable families. From early childhood care and safe day-care services to family-strengthening initiatives and educational support, every stride taken at Karura translates into real, lasting impact.

The funds raised this year will help more children remain in school, provide parents with essential support, and offer vulnerable families the stability they need to thrive. As sunlight broke through the forest canopy, one message was clear: when a community comes together, change becomes inevitable.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to every runner, sponsor, volunteer and friend who made the Karura Fun Run 2025 such a success. Together, we ran for hope — and together, we will continue protecting children, empowering families, and building brighter futures.

Thank you for being part of this journey.
