The well-being of every child in our programs is a top priority. During the holidays, we conduct comprehensive children’s assessments to ensure they are thriving both mentally and physically.

Our dedicated social workers engage children in meaningful conversations about their school experience, community environment, and home life, creating a safe space for them to be heard. Alongside this, we monitor key health indicators like weight and height to ensure they are receiving the nutrition they need to grow and flourish.

A day of learning, laughter, and empowerment ❤️
We recently hosted a youth forum with 120 amazing young people where we talked about:
✨ Breaking gender stereotypes
✨ Staying safe online
✨ Protecting themselves from harm
✨ Menstrual health education for girls

We also shared essentials with every child, because dignity matters:
👕 Boys received 2 boxer shorts
🩲 Girls received 2 pairs of underwear + 2 sanitary towel packs

These forums are more than just sessions, they’re safe spaces for kids to learn, connect, and have fun.

But we want to do even more 🙌
We’re looking for mentors, creatives, and professionals who can come in, inspire, and engage these young minds.

What happens after families graduate from the Tushinde programme? Do we say goodbye, or keep walking the journey with them?

We stay connected ❤️

After graduation, families receive medical cover for up to one year and are invited to annual follow-up meetings. These moments help us check in, ensuring children are safe, supported, and thriving in school.

Previously, we were able to extend medical cover until the youngest child turned 18, however, as we continue to balance sustainability and scale, this has been adjusted to one year to allow support to reach more families. Even so, our commitment to these families remains strong.

At our recent annual meeting, caregivers participated in engaging sessions on child protection, safeguarding, saving, and positive parenting. It was a space to learn, share experiences, and grow together as a community.

We also introduced the foster care programme—an opportunity for families to give back and help protect at risk children.

Because at Tushinde, the journey doesn’t end at graduation, it continues, together.
